Fund - Anti-Drug Component

The Department of Justice Canada administers the Youth Justice Fund, a program designed to increase citizen and community participation in promoting a fair and more effective youth justice system.

The Anti-Drug Component of the Youth Justice Fund has project funding available to support the treatment and rehabilitation of youth in the justice system who are struggling with addiction.  Resources are available to help bridge connections between the justice system and community-based programs and services that help youth make smart choices and resist drug use. 

The priorities of the Anti-Drug Component of the Youth Justice Fund are to:

• Test and promote effective drug treatment programming for youth in the justice system;
   
• Introduce, pilot and evaluate drug treatment options for youth in the justice system; and
   
• Share knowledge of programs and/or promising practices with provinces/ territories and interested stakeholders.

Projects will be chosen primarily in collaboration with the provincial and territorial ministries responsible for youth justice, and will focus on identifying and testing treatment activities and programs.  A portion of resources will also be available for community-based organizations to support staff training or other activities. The focus of the activities should be on the development of innovative programs and services that help youth in conflict with the law address their drug use, develop social skills, and make smart choices.
