Take Action

The most powerful tool you have with your teenagers is communication. However, it must be used appropriately. Put yourself in their shoes and make communication a two-way street and an everyday activity that isn't so cumbersome, where you're learning what's happening in their world through quick, informal chats in the car, at breakfast, or at dinner.

If your intuition is telling you that your teenager is using drugs, take immediate action and talk directly with him or her about it. Encourage and open and honest discussion that will deal directly with the issue. If you need assistance, there are plenty of resources such as your family physician, pediatrician, your child's school counselor, or you can find out more on our Get Help page for more useful links to services available to you in your area.
